JAMESBURG, Monterey County — October 29, 2026. For residents of Jamesburg and the Tassajara Road corridor, voting in the November 3 general election takes some planning. Monterey County’s official list of ballot drop-off sites does not identify a box in Jamesburg itself. It does list a 24-hour ballot drop box at Carmel Valley Branch Library, 65 W. Carmel Valley Road, Carmel Valley, CA 93924.
Where and when can you return a ballot?
According to the Monterey County Elections Office’s official drop-box directory, the Carmel Valley Branch Library box is scheduled to be available from October 5 through November 3, 2026. The county states that its 24-hour boxes close at 8 p.m. on Election Day, Tuesday, November 3. This is a listing for a ballot drop box—not a claim that library staff or in-person voting services are available around the clock.
The county also lists a 24-hour drop box at Monterey Public Library, 625 Pacific Street, Monterey. Voters should choose an official location that works for their actual route, rather than assume a ballot box is operating at a nearby business or unofficial collection point.
If your ballot has not arrived, or you missed registration
The California Secretary of State says the regular voter-registration deadline was October 19, but eligible voters who missed it may use same-day conditional voter registration at an appropriate county elections office or in-person voting location through Election Day. For replacement ballots, voting-site details and accessibility services, use the Monterey County Elections Office rather than assuming the drop box offers these services.
A mailed ballot must be postmarked by Election Day and received by the county within the state’s applicable post-election window; the Secretary of State recommends returning it early. A completed ballot can also be returned to an authorized drop-off site by the 8 p.m. November 3 deadline. Follow the ballot-envelope instructions, including signing the return envelope.
Plan for mountain-road conditions before leaving
Jamesburg is a rural area where travel may involve winding mountain roads. Before a trip along Tassajara Road or toward Carmel Valley, consult Caltrans QuickMap and current Monterey County road notices. A previously reported Tassajara Road restriction and federal forest closure concern different access questions; neither should be taken as a statement that a specific voting route is open or closed right now.
